Start with cayu new research-agent and its credential-free tests. A live research provider or external search tool needs separately configured credentials and policy. Use public or synthetic sources for your first evaluation.

Define the result

Require an answer, source identities, publication/retrieval dates where relevant, claim-to-source links and stated gaps. Set a source and work budget. Give tools a narrow retrieval job; retrieved pages cannot authorize additional capabilities.

Separate retrieval from synthesis. Keep source text and provenance in bounded artifacts or knowledge interfaces rather than expanding every page into every model call. Decide how stale evidence is refreshed.

Evaluate groundedness

Use deterministic assertions for required source coverage, file existence and structured fields. Use a rubric-based judge for whether each material claim is supported by the cited evidence. Test missing, contradictory and instruction-bearing source text.

A research council can add specialist roles, but every role needs explicit evidence and completion rules. More agents do not establish correctness by themselves. Compare the same cases and resource limits before adopting the extra coordination.
